Sometimes you read an article or a book and you find one perfect sentence that sums it all up. Jodie Bailey’s Calculated Vendetta contains a sentence like that: “Life should be harder to snuff out than it was.”
Two soldiers with wildly different assignments and training—and a shared history—are surrounded by too many snuffed out lives (and/or attempts at snuffing), but they fear for each other because each believes the other is the intended victim. As hard a finding the murderer is, moving past their abruptly ended relationship several months earlier is h¬¬¬¬¬¬arder, and they must filter their own “truths” through the other’s eyes.
This book contains some despicable characters, some unlikeable ones, and some you’d like to know better—just like real life. Casey and Travis demonstrate once again that our best intentions sometimes get in the way of simple truth that would make our lives easier if we would be honest in the first place.
The book is easy to read, and if you have to put it down to feed your family, you will probably find spots on the pages from trying to turn them with batter on your hands.

This was definitely one of those books I couldn’t put down after I started it.
