I saw an interesting quote at church yesterday… and I forgot to write it down. But the gist of it was this:
The amount of time you are willing to wait for something is directly proportional to the value you place on that thing.
Hm. We live in a society that wants things now, now, now. And we value things less and less, don’t we? Everything from computers to houses, coffeemakers to cars… They are often bought right NOW on credit and thrown out the minute they blip just a bit. We don’t want to save before we buy nice things, don’t want to rent before we buy, don’t want to put something off until the time is truly right.
We don’t want to wait for the right job, do the work to get the job done correctly, or seek out someone who can mentor us when we’re lost.
We don’t want to take the time to know the facts before we speak.
Sad thing is, how often do we treat our relationships the same way? We don’t want to wait until we’re married… Don’t want to wait to GET married… Don’t want to wait to fully get to know people before we dive into their lives… And how fast do we make relationships disposable?
One of Jesus’s biggest things was “wait.” We’re to “wait on the Lord” and “wait for His return.” But are we willing to do that? Is He that important to us?
