Today is a beautiful day. It’s cloudy outside, and thunder is rolling in the distance. This is my favorite kind of writing day, when weather gets a little bit active and the clouds outside make the coffee taste just a little bit warmer, if you know what I mean.
This is also a beautiful day because it’s the official first day of summer for schoolteacher me. That means three solid hours of writing time this morning! And every morning! You have no idea how good it feels to sit and write “for real.” To write in a way when there is enough time for my mind to wander a bit, enough time to stare out the window and let a scene play out for a few minutes before I commit it to paper. It’s my favorite way to write, because the zone is a whole lot easier to get into than when I’m trying to cram 1000 words into 45 minutes!
So, what am I writing today? The working title is Unforgotten. You’ll be able to read it in October 2014, when the amazing people at Abingdon Press publish it as part of their Quilts of Love series. I am so excited about this! It’s been a fairly emotional book for me, and at times, that emotion has fought me. It involves a young woman who is faced with the possibility of losing her grandmother, so it’s forcing me to look at some things I haven’t looked at in a long time. I’m blessed to have my one grandmother still with me. I’m blessed to have had the other for as long as I did. She was one of my best friends, my confidant, my cheerleader… and losing her nearly four years ago was crazy hard. Revisiting it? Even harder. In the book, Jemma is the amalgamation of both of my grandmothers, and she’s a joy to write.
In other news, the edits for Crossfire were turned in about two weeks ago. Now, I’m waiting for my first glimpse of the cover. I’m so excited! Freefall looked amazing. I can’t wait to see what magic they make with this one. It will be out in January.
I’m also cooking up a couple of contests with Freefall. Let’s see if we can give away a few copies in the next couple of weeks, shall we? I need a new tagline, as I said in an earlier post, so I’m devising a way for someone to get a free book by helping me come up with one!
So… What’s new in your world?
