I don’t know about y’all, but I had the hardest time picking the verse out of John that spoke to me the most. I could spend about six weeks in this book and still not run out of verses. Join us, won’t you? Drop into the comments and tell us your favorite verse out of John, then we’ll share our thoughts on Acts next Wednesday!
John 6: 67-68 (NIV)–“You do not want to leave too, do you?” Jesus asked the Twelve. Simon Peter answered him, “Lord, to whom shall we go? You have the words of eternal life.”
I love Peter. He always puts it right out there. I can totally identify with him. There are times when you wonder if he filters his words through his brain before they come out of his mouth, but this isn’t one of them. Right here is one of Peter’s most perfect moments in the gospels. Right here, he nails it.
Have you ever been so down, had God “be silent” for so long, that you wondered if it was worth it to go on being a Christian? Haven’t we all had those moments when we questioned God or wondered if it wouldn’t be easier to just fall back and go along with the world’s flow? If we all told the truth here, we’d all say we’ve been there at one point or another.
But this is the gist of it right here… Where else would you go? If Jesus is truly your life, you know deep in your gut that, no matter what, He is the only place to be. There’s nowhere else to run. To be perfectly honest, there’s nowhere else I’d want to run. The thought of going anywhere else breaks my heart, because I know there is nowhere else.
Isn’t it marvelous to know that He is the one true place and that He will always be the one true place? He’s never going to leave, never going to move, never going to change. He will always be Jesus and will always be our safe place. Makes your heart grow a few sizes, doesn’t it?

I agree with Jodie, John is a super tough book to just pick one favorite. I am going with a popular one this week. John 16:33 – “I have told you these things, so that in me you may have peace. In this world you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world.”
This kind of reminds me of some pretty awful movies. You are sitting there watching, and you know how it’s going to end, yet the characters are whiny and annoying, and seem to have no idea that their struggles are nothing compared to what they will get when it’s all said and done. This verse is speaking to me in that way. God is reminding us that we know how this whole thing is all going to end. He is reminding us that our earthly life will not be perfect and in fact, we will struggle at times, but we need to not worry and stress over that, because we know the ending. The ending has already been written!

WOOHOO!!!!! So why do we worry? And yet, we do. I’m so glad to know the end for when the middle gets hard.

Yes, it does make my heart swell! Sometimes, my mind boggles when I think about how in the world people manage without Jesus. I suppose they don’t really manage, but you know what I mean.
How do people know what the right decison is to make for jobs, family, homes, etc…I can’t imagine journeying through this life without Him.
I love the book of Acts! Can’t wait for next week! 🙂

Amen! I think about that a lot, especially in those times when my husband would deploy. I couldn’t figure out how people survive that without Jesus. Then it makes me wonder how they get out of bed in the morning, period. Where do they go? Can’t wait to hear what you have to say about Acts!
