Hey, hey, Summer Blog Readers! Hope things are good in your neighborhood! Things are for sure looking up in the Bailey household! We got a call today that the movers who have been holding our stuff “hostage” in another state are finally going to deliver this week. Better late than never, right? Answered prayers all around!
Here we are in Mark for Word Wednesday. What speaks to you in this gospel? Drop into the comments below and share!
Mark 15:37-38 (NIV, emphasis mine)–And Jesus uttered a loud cry, and breathed his last. And the veil of the temple was torn in two from top to bottom.
I absotively, posolutely, love verse 38 almost more than almost any verse in the Bible! The first time I fully understood it was not the first time I read it. No. It had flown past my eyes dozens of times before the implication caught me. It’s one of the coolest things in the Bible to me.
Jesus completed his mission. Done. Finished. All over but the shoutin’… And at that instant, God tore the veil in the temple, the separation between the people and the Holy of Holies. He ripped it right in two and let us know that nothing stood between us and Him anymore.
That’s awesome, but the thing that gives me chills every time is how He did it. He ripped it from TOP to BOTTOM. The first time that hit me, it floored me. Only God could have torn it from the top; it was too high for human hands to reach. How wonderful do you think that moment was in heaven, the moment when Jesus literally tore down the wall between heaven and earth, and God figuratively reached down and ripped the veil? I wonder if God meant to do that all along, or if He got so excited He reached out and did it out of sheer joy that His people could now come freely to Him? Either way, I’ll bet that was one awesome grin on His face. His boy did it, and everything would be different from that moment on out.
Either way… God rocks, doesn’t He?

I love that verse too! You know the ends could have frayed, and made it easier to rip, but nope. Not from the top.
I can’t pick out one particular passage in Mark. There are so many amazing things that pop out!
Love your Word Wednesdays, girl! 🙂 You rock!

Thanks, Jessica! Good point about frayed ends. Hadn’t thought of that one, but yet another reason to LOVE that verse!

HALLELLUJAH!!! I can’t imagine what it’s been like to wait and wait for your “stuff.” Moving and worrying about your stuff arriving safely is bad enough.

Thanks, Suzanne!

There is a ton of cool stuff in Mark, but when I went back and looked at what I underlined, I am really grooving on Mark 9:24 – Immediately the boy’ father exclaimed, “I do believe; help me overcome my unbelief!”
I love this. I love that the bible is full of examples of real people with real emotions and thoughts and feelings. I feel this way so often. I mean, I know God is there, he always has been and always will be. I know so many of the biblical truths. I know that the only way to the father is through the son. But, sometimes it’s almost like I don’t believe it. Sometimes I pray to God this very verse. “help me overcome my unbelief….help me love you more…help me feel your presence and share that with others…etc.”I love that we have a God that we can go to with any thought or problem. I love that we have a God that will help us if we seek him and ask for his help.

I ALMOST chose that one. I love how God says it’s okay to help us overcome unbelief. We don’t have to be perfect, and we can appeal to Him for help, even for help believing in Him. That’s pretty awesome.
