Baseball season just opened. Guess what. I’m not a baseball fan. I am a Boston Red Sox fan. This means I will likely not watch baseball unless the Red Sox are playing. If they are coming back from three games down to beat the Yankees in a best of seven series to go to the World Series, so much the better. I’m just sayin’…
At any rate, with baseball season picking up and hockey season winding down, it seemed like a good time to ask…
What major sporting event do you get the most excited about?
My answer? (If you don’t already know, well, I have to ask… Do you know me at all?)
The Daytona 500 is a national holiday at my house. (And yes, I realize my house by itself does not constitute a nation. Leave me alone.) This is a big deal kind of day. Chili is cooked and consumed. Girl Scout Cookies are eaten. There is much yelling and shouting at drivers who can surely hear us from our living room! I once organized a party at my church that included pizza and a whole lot of us screaming at the TV when Sterling Marlin got out of his car on a red flag to pull the fender from the tire. (That’s a no-no, by the way.) Daytona Day is a big deal around the Bailey household. Actually, any race day is a big day. Daytona Day is just the biggest day.
And in a wonderful symbol of just how much I am a Southerner and my husband is a Yankee… the other big sports event that is eagerly awaited at our house is…
The opening day of hockey season. Yes, it’s true. My husband has turned me into a hockey fan. (He was already a race fan when I met him, so I can’t claim the credit.) I love hockey. I love my Carolina Hurricanes. (Although, unlike my only-watch-the-Red-Sox baseball thing, I will watch ANY team play hockey.) When we lived in Georgia, where they believe in football and not in hockey, we had to watch games on the computer. Yep. We huddled together with the laptop between us. The seven-year-old kiddo in our house thinks we don’t live in a real town if there’s no local team to cheer for. She owns a referee shirt. Why, I don’t know, but it’s cute on her.
Now it’s your turn. Which sporting event has you counting down the days? Can’t wait to hear these answers!

None of this surprises me ;).
Once upon a time it was baseball for me. Sadly, I do not have time to watch any sports. Additionally I AM from Cleveland. Haven’t you heard, we don’t have any winning teams…..
LOL

Hmmm… Cleveland. Do you race cars there? 🙂 Otherwise, I’ve never heard of you…
